Padamalai contains 2,000 teachings  by Ramana  Maharshi, none of which has ever appeared in English. They were recorded by Muruganar, one of Sri Ramana's foremost disciples. David Godman,  who has written several books on Ramana, edited Padamalai. He arranged the teachings by subject and added quotations by Ramana that amplify the subject matter. It is a completely new presentation of Ramana Maharshi's teachings that have never appeared in any other books about him. 
“What is always natural to everyone is liberation, which is bliss. Bondage is delusion of mind, a false sensation. The ego alone is bondage, and one’s own true nature, free of the contagion of the ego, is liberation. There is no greater deception than believing that liberation, which is ever present as one’s  own nature, will be attained at some later stage. Even the desire for liberation is the work of delusion. What is the method of practice?

As the Self of a person who tries to attain Self-realization is not different from him and as there is nothing other than or superior to him to be attained by him, Self-realization being only the realization of one’s own nature, the seeker of Liberation realizes, without doubts or misconceptions, his real nature by distinguishing the eternal from the transient, and never swerves from his natural state. This is known as the practice of knowledge. This is the enquiry leading to Self-realization.
Sri Ramana Maharshi is one of the most respected sages of the century. At 12 years old, without spiritual practices, teachers or scripture, he radically and spontaneously awakened to the ultimate Truth.

Satsang with Ramana was primarily in stillness ~ a silent teaching. Nonetheless, he spoke live words as the ultimate Truth of being to dispel the false ideas of the intellect while maintaining the ever-present Field of presence within 'the student.'
