To inspire and be inspired is surely a joy for everyone. As our testament to that truth of experience, Katie and I are inspired to share with you KIVA, a non-profit organization that is creatively and powerfully addressing the challenge of poverty on our planet.

I have known a principal employee of KIVA, since she was born in 1978. Her name is Chelsea and Katie and I adore her. She became involved with KIVA after her return to the U.S. from extensive world travel and volunteer work, including tsunami relief efforts in Thailand and a three month internship working with HIV positive children in South Africa. Because of Chelsea, we became familiar with KIVA and decided to participate, not as a Friends of the Heart project, but rather as individual supporters of KIVA's mission.

What is KIVA? KIVA is a grounded experience of love in action. Recently recognized on PBS television, KIVA is a small group of talented people, living and working in San Francisco, who are acting upon an ingenious and heart-fully creative impulse to balance the inequity of material well-being in our global community.

KIVA shares abundance by making interest-free loans to the working poor of our world. Through KIVA, for as little as $25, you can be a participating lender to a qualified third world business person and witness the power of your love in action. If you desire, you can communicate with the grateful beneficiaries of your support. To date, over $3 million has been loaned without a single default. Obviously, this lending program means a great deal to the recipients and their communities.

All benefit from repayment and the prospect of additional loans. When your loan is repaid to KIVA, you are notified and have the option of either withdrawing your principal or reinvesting it in another business. The risk is small and the rewards can be life transforming for all involved.

100% of your loan reaches the working poor. The KIVA organization is supported by other giving, grants and fund-raising activities.

Katie and I are enthusiastic in our support of the KIVA project and its uplifting and sustainable service to our global community.
